High Tide I 02:12
Now, the town is dead and gone. Hang on.
2.
Trees 02:42
The trees drip rain from yesterday, so I get wet standing in their shade. Something’s wrong with my depth perception, so I walk in place until I reach a destination. Every favorite song I wrote in a cluttered room with a ceiling low so if I stand too straight or I stand too tall I bump my head and forget it all.
3.
Pool Party 07:36
If I get stoked for a romantic summer don’t let me down with your pool party secrets. I want you to be the one. If I’m up late watching you idle, come out of gray print and make it all certain. I want you to be the one. I want to take the last words you’ve got to give. Before you go to bed, what do you got to give? I want to take the last words you’ve got to give. Before you go to bed, what do you got to give? I’ll put in a place that no one else can trust, so it’ll all be there when I’m ready to love.

My Confessor (free) 03:07
My confessor is my friend and thus provides encouragement; I learn by comparison, and my sins aren’t as bad as his.  Rules are not to be broken. They are puzzles for an intellect to bend but never cut in half. To give but never fully get. I’ve always known I’d die alone. My god is alone where no one else can go  Bread from my hand to my mouth trickle down to my house trickle trickle down to my house trickle trickle down to my house Let the blood drip on the towel the blood drip on the towel I will seek to save my heart if you will stop projecting yours as hints and tips to solve all prayers. Well, we’ve been here 10,000 years and there’s no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun. There are no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun. There are no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun.

High Tide II 01:23
Water washes beach into the sand; clears the X’s I had marked in the desert before that’s what it was. Now the town is dead and gone, all the people from the town hang on.
6.
Big Rocks (free) 07:16
Put your shoulder next to my shoulder. It’s the only time it’ll feel this close; with all the little touches touching, all the little vessels pumping blood to the places that they should. The rocks that I thought were big rocks got littler as I backed up. The thoughts that I thought were big rocks got smaller and I backed up. Put your shoulder next to my shoulder. It’s the only time it’ll feel this good; with all the little touches touching, all the little vessels pumping blood to the places that they should. And I could move an inch right or left and let you know how I felt. With all the circuits bending, all my lights are darkening and I am going straight to hell. The thoughts that I thought were big thoughts got littler as I backed up. The thoughts that I thought were big rocks got smaller and I grew up. The rocks that I thought were big rocks got littler as I backed up. The thoughts that I thought were big rocks got smaller and I grew up.

Belly Line 04:34
Cover the curve of your belly line with mine. Smudge the pencil line to make it clear what’s yours and mine. Smudge the pencil line to make it clear what’s yours and mine. I am, I am every love drunk summer night. Computer sun is rising. I’m making my lists of ways to die, and I cherish every stupid thing I write. ‘Cause not a single thing I whispered was a lie. ‘Cause even cliches have to be true sometimes. Smudge the pencil line to make it clear what’s yours and mine. Smudge the pencil line to make it clear what’s yours and mine.
8.
I am not so innocent, you realized, when I cut your head off your body. I knew how to flirt before you came around. I only ran off hoping you'd catch up. I won't live my life feeling weak and tired. Mom, I gotta deal with this vulnerable feeling the only way I can, so I will keep my back to all the open windows and ghosts that might come through them. Take my showers without warning. Water wash the blood down quickly. Death is startling even when you invite him in. Feel my throat blood in the kitchen. Feel my throat blood, I am ready. I am ready.
9.
Water washes beach into the sand; clears the X’s I had marked in the desert before that’s what it was. Now the town is dead and gone, all the people from the town hang on. We could not let it happen again. We will hang on and ride on the tide. I know what each day holds until then I know what each day holds (We will hang on and sleep in the tide) (We will not, not let what, what happened, happen again) We will not let it happen again. We will hang on and ride on the tide. (We will hang on and sleep in the tide) We will not let it happen again.
10.
All of my dreams came true leaving nothing else to dream about. So I dream that I’m standing still to make it so. Everyone I talk to is someone that I thought I knew but may never have known at all. I resolve not to talk to myself and not to talk to anybody else who’s completely awake and okay with themself, and I love without anybody’s help. You never wound me up quite enough to come undone. So I’m left here just un-done. I tell myself you’re waiting, but I might be the only one. Everyone I talk to is someone that I thought I knew but may never have known at all. I resolve not to talk to myself and not to talk to anybody else who’s completely awake and okay with themself, and I hate without anybody’s help. I’m tired I wanna go to bed Someone point me toward the end.

about

Big Rocks is the second full-length album from Los Angeles-based band, Hi Ho Silver Oh.

The band, made up of songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Casey Trela and rhythm section Jon Mackey and Kevin Manwarren, fleshes out the bedroom acoustics of earlier recordings and hones their sound with a propulsive ruggedness. Over the course of Big Rocks, the band ebbs and flows with an uncanny fluidity from the caterwauling feedback of "High Tide I," to the shimmering pop of "Trees." From the anthemic bombast of "My Confessor" and sparkly gore of "Showers Without Warning" to the harrowing intimacy of "Belly Line."

Casey Trela's lyrics have never been so potent as they are on Big Rocks. Like a candid conversation with an old friend, Trela's words occupy an eerie space that manages to be both extremely personal and unexpectedly cosmic in the same breath. Even at the album's most mournful and introspective moments, the songs glimmer with a comforting playfulness, always anchored by the sheer power Trela wields as a vocal performer.

Big Rocks is a substantial offering; an instant reward that demands repeat spins.

released July 10, 2012

Casey Trela wrote the words and music. They were then decoded and fleshed out in Hi Ho Silver Oh band form with Wil Donegan, Phil Eastman, Jon Mackey, and Kevin Manwarren. Joe Napolitano and Casey recorded everything either at Hobby Shop in Highland Park, Moonshine Studios in Atwater Village, Joe's house, or the Winona House. Jillinda Palmer played a bunch of keyboards and pianos all over the album, and sang backup vocals on "Belly Line." James King and Jordan Katz played saxophone and trumpet (respectively) on "Pool Party." Dave Horwitz played auxiliary percussion on "Trees." Daniel Hart is the man behind the violin of "Belly Line" and "Gone Straight from My Head." The album's group vocals were sung by Randol Aikin, Kathryn Burns, Kelly Daly, Wil Donegan, Genevieve Howell, Garrett Kemble, Katie McNeill, Tim Phillips, Roxy Radulescu, Laila Tamburini, Madeline Walter, and Michael Wilkie. Charlyne Yi and Roxy played some music into a tape recorder that is sampled in "High Tide I." Casey and Phil played the guitars, Kevin played the bass, Jon played the drums, and Joe played auxiliary percussion. Everybody sang. Joe mixed the album at his house, and Kevin Bartley mastered it at Capitol Records. Jeremy Purser created the artwork. We offer all the gratitude and thanks we can to our parents, family, and friends who keep giving us great examples of what kindness, encouragement, and love look like.
